Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a liquid that can be applied directly to certain cavities to help slow or stop their progression. Application is quick and does not require drilling or numbing, making it a useful minimally invasive option for some children.
SDF can be particularly helpful when traditional treatment is not the best option at that time or when preserving tooth structure is a priority.
An important consideration is that SDF permanently darkens the area of the tooth affected by the cavity. We’ll discuss the benefits, limitations, and expected appearance with you before treatment.
