Accessibility

We want every parent to be able to use this website, and every family to be able to use our practice. If something here does not work for you, please tell us. We would rather know.

The standard we build to

This website is designed and built against WCAG 2.2 Level AA as its technical target. In practice that has meant:

  • Semantic HTML, with landmarks and a logical heading structure on every page
  • A skip link to the main content
  • Full keyboard operation, with a clearly visible focus indicator
  • Text and interface color combinations checked with a contrast measurement tool rather than by eye
  • Color never used as the only way of conveying information
  • Visible labels on every form field, with instructions before the field
  • Touch and pointer targets sized generously
  • Layouts that reflow to narrow screens and to high zoom without loss of content
  • Motion kept subtle and switched off entirely for anyone whose system asks for reduced motion
  • Text alternatives on images, and decorative graphics hidden from screen readers
  • Native HTML elements for menus and expandable sections, rather than custom widgets

Being honest about what that means

Meeting a technical standard is not the same as being usable by everyone, and automated testing catches only a portion of accessibility problems. We do not claim this website is perfect, and we are not going to tell you it is legally compliant on the strength of a test score. That is not what a test score means.

We also do not use an accessibility overlay or "one-click accessibility" widget. Those tend to add problems rather than remove them. We would rather fix the underlying code.

Display preferences

The round button in the bottom-right corner of every page opens a small panel of display preferences. You can:

  • Make text larger, up to 150%
  • Turn on more contrast, which darkens supporting text and strengthens borders
  • Reduce motion, which stops floating photos and smooth scrolling
  • Underline every link that sits inside text

Your choices are saved in your browser on this device only. They are never sent to us or anyone else, and "Reset to defaults" clears them. The panel can be reached with the keyboard straight after the skip link, and Escape closes it.

This panel is not an overlay and does not change how the site is built. It changes only how pages look for you. Your browser's own zoom and text settings, and your device's reduced-motion setting, work on this site too.

Known limitations

  • Screen-reader testing to date has been limited. If you use assistive technology and hit a barrier, your report is genuinely valuable to us.
  • Some pages link to external documents and websites, for example national dental organizations, whose accessibility we do not control.
  • Our opening-list form is still being connected to the system that will receive submissions. Until that is complete a submission may show an error message, and the page offers a phone route alongside the form. The form has been tested for keyboard operation and screen-reader announcements; its live error handling will be tested again once submissions are being delivered.

Accessibility at the practice

Accessible parking is available near our office, and our entrance is equipped with an automatic accessibility door button for easier access. The office is still being fitted out ahead of opening in January 2027, so we will describe room layouts and equipment once they are in place.

If you have specific accessibility needs or questions about physical access for your child before your visit, please call us and ask. We would rather answer the actual question than have you rely on a page written in advance.

Adapting a dental visit to a child's needs is a core part of how we practice, not an accommodation we make reluctantly. More about care for children with special healthcare needs.

Tell us about a barrier

If any part of this website or our practice is difficult to use, call us at (616) 777-3206. Please tell us the page or the situation, what you were trying to do, and what got in the way. That is what lets us fix it rather than guess.

If you need information from this website in another format, ask and we will provide it.
