A dental abscess is an infection that can develop when bacteria reach the inside of a tooth or surrounding tissues. Children may experience tooth pain, tenderness, localized swelling, a bump on the gums, or sometimes no discomfort at all.
Dental infections do not resolve on their own and should be evaluated. Treatment depends on the source and severity of the infection and may include treatment of the affected tooth, removal of the tooth, and, when appropriate, medication.
At Little Roots, our priority is to address the source of the infection while keeping your child comfortable and protecting their overall health.
This page describes clinical care in general terms and is written for parents. It is not advice about your individual child.
